As I was doing some "sprucing up" around midnight (it's actually 12:06am right now), I realized I could insert custom HTML! I got super excited because, when I was younger <bad Beatles rendition>so much younger than to-daaayy</bad Beatles rendition> I was, I'm not gonna lie, pretty into Neopets. I know what you're thinking: that I had no life when I was a little kid. You might not be too far off.
But back to the point. On Neopets, each "pet" has a page that you can customize with <drumroll>....</drumroll> HTML! I think you know where I'm going with this... Anyway, despite being a site for little kids with no social lives, there is a also substantial community of mostly young website-designers. People make little websites, all somewhat related to Neopets, and some offered various services. These little "businesses" provided, buttons, website layouts, icons, animations, custom fan art, tutorials, listings called directories (kind of like phone books, with long lists of different kinds of sites) poetry...
And, well, I ran a site for about two years. It was a review site, so other website-runners asked me to take a look at their sites and give constructive feedback. (Don't judge me too harshy, please.) And I was actually pretty successful, too; I ranked in the top 10 for reviews at the climax of it all. Not gonna lie; I was pretty proud of myself- still am, now that I think of it. Anyway, I never was very good with HTML, but I did learn the basics, such as "Div boxes." (And it was, for the most part, all thanks to this little tutorial. And yes, it is a tutorial made by a Neopets user.) Now I'm not going to turn this into an HTML tutorial, but I do remember some of what I learned through that little interlude in my life, and I did learn a fair amount.
Ok, so back to the point again. I used my knowledge of div boxes to make a scrolling box for the "News in Brief" on the homepage!
